Actor Manoj Bajpayee sits down with The Quint in the latest installment of ‘Tell Me All’ to talk about his early days in the industry, working in Satya, why he believes the film fraternity is fragmented, how his wife has influenced his career and much more.
Speaking of finding work during his early days in the industry, Bajpayee said, “It was very difficult to be found out by the production people; it was very difficult to meet anyone on set if you weren’t part of the unit. There was no casting director’s office; it was almost impossible to find work. Word of mouth was more important than anything else.”
He went on to talk about his wife’s influence, “If I could freely move around it was because of her support. She has complete faith in me and she is also my biggest critic. She doesn’t want me to enjoy the laurels a second longer than needed; she wants me to be realistic about everything.”
Bajpayee talks about why he is indebted to filmmakers Ram Gopal Varma and Shekhar Kapur, what the film industry is like for independent filmmakers, the importance of social responsibility as an artist, shooting the nude scene in Despatch and much more.
