An image of several people standing next to a car is being shared with a claim that a family in Nashik recently purchased a car after availing the benefits of the Maharashtra government's 'Ladki Bahin Yojana' scheme.
What did the post say?: It carried text mentioning that the family had three women in the household, who availed the benefits of the scheme and were able to buy a car.
What are the facts?: The claim is misleading. The image could be traced back to at least September 2021, which predates the announcement of the 'Ladki Bahin Yojana' scheme in Maharashtra.
What led us to the truth?: On performing a simple reverse image search, we found the same visual posted on a Facebook handle named 'Jalkranti Group'.
It was uploaded on 12 September 2021 with a caption that said, "One more car added in jalkranti family!!."
The tagged location was of Surat, Gujarat.
Team WebQoof has reached out to the account for more details about the image and this report will be updated as and when a response is received.
About 'Ladki Bahin Yojana' in Maharashtra: As per a report published in Business Today, the scheme was announced by the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra Ajit Pawar in July 2024.
In his budget speech, Pawar had said that all eligible women will be given Rs 1500 per month and will be implemented from July 2024.
The then government had expanded the scheme and relaxed conditions for women to avail the assistance, which included the pushing of the deadline from 15 July 2024 to 31 August 2024.
While we could not independently verify the context or location of the viral image, it is clear that the photo predates the announcement of the scheme in Maharashtra.
Conclusion: The image is old and unrelated to the 'Ladki Bahin Yojana' in Maharashtra.
